Marriage
Corpus Christi’s Marriage Ministry comes under the priority of Christian Vocations and encompasses at least these three aspects:
Mission
The Marriage Ministry dedicates its efforts to promoting Marriage as a Vocation and Sacrament. The ministry assists the pastor in the preparation of couples for Catholic Marriage and supports married couples of all ages at Corpus Christi by providing programs that enrich their relationships through developing their communication skills, prayer and reflection, as well as social events to celebrate their commitment to one another with other couples in the parish.
Planning a Catholic Wedding
Are you a baptized Catholic engaged to be married?
Or, are you a baptized Catholic who is currently ‘married’ outside the Church
and now seek to have your union recognized by the Church?
Congratulations! Sacred scripture affirms that man and woman were created for one another. A man and woman who freely enter into this partnership (called a ‘covenant’) for the whole of their lives and through the witness of marriage are a visible reflection of the loving relationship between God and his Church. By its nature, marriage is the foundation of the family and the cornerstone of our society. It is ordered toward the good of the couple and the establishment of a family. Marriage is open to the procreation, rearing and education of children. The ‘domestic church’ of the Christian family home is meant to be a community of grace, prayer and the first school of love and charity.
Marriage between baptized persons has been raised by Christ to be the dignity of a sacrament, and we at Corpus Christi Catholic Church regard the sacrament of Holy Matrimony with the utmost respect and sensitivity appropriate for a serious, lifelong covenantal relationship. We take great care to help the engaged couple discern that they are ready for this wonderful sacrament at the service of communion.
How do we get started with the process?
Contact the parish office at (813) 988-1593 to set up an initial appointment with a priest or deacon who will get to know you, explain the sacramental preparation process, and will help guide you along the way.
There are a few things to know before making your first appointment with a priest or deacon:
- A minimum of six months is required to discern and prepare for this sacrament – a year is preferred.
- Do not set a wedding date before seeing us. We want you to be free to prepare, grow in love, and make important lifelong decisions without the encumbrance of an artificial deadline which limits your freedom to discern.
For more information on Holy Matrimony at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, including details about the process, fees for preparation and for a ‘Church wedding,’ please see our marriage preparation pamphlet. Marriage Guidelines
Are you divorced and now wish to be remarried in the Church?
We are sensitive to the pain of divorce, its affects on the entire family, and are commited to helping you through the healing process. Our clergy, working closely with the Diocese of St. Petersburg Marriage Tribunal, will assist individuals with determining the nature of the prior marriage, the circumstances of the breakup, and the process to overcome impediments to remarriage. Please call the parish office (813) 988-1593 for further information or to make an appointment with a priest or deacon.
